The Council of Ontario Faculties of Medicine (COFM) provides an effective means of coordination of effort and a regular medium of communication between the faculties of medicine in Ontario.  COFM provides advice to COU, government, and professional organizations on matters related to medical education and research. 

COFM has the following subcommittees:

Continuing Professional Development Committee

The Committee on Continuing Medical Education (CPD:COFM) advises COFM on matters relating to continuing medical education and professional development that may have a direct bearing on the collective interests of the Ontario Medical schools. CPD:COFM is responsible for promoting continuing professional development.

Distributed Medical Education Committee

The Distributed Medical Education Committee (DME:COFM) advises COFM on distributed medical education programs.  DME:COFM is responsible for matters relating to distributed medical education, medical school expansion and its effect on human resource and service needs in Ontario.

Equity, Diversity and Gender Committee 

The Equity, Diversity and Gender Committee (EDG:COFM) assists COFM and its members by: raising awareness of, and responsiveness to, gender equity and diversity as a determinant of health; encouraging sensitivity to gender and equity issues; ensuring that faculties of medicine provide an environment in which all students,  faculty and staff are encouraged and enabled to reach their full potential; making recommendations for system solutions and change to COFM; and serving as a resource to COFM in the area of gender and equity issues and responding to specific items that COFM refers to its attention for a 'gender and equity issue' perspective.

Medical Admissions Committee  

The Medical Admissions Committee (MAC:COFM) oversees the Ontario Medical School Application Service (OMSAS), a centralized application process for medical school applications run through the Ontario Universities Application Centre.  MAC:COFM provides a forum for the Ontario medical schools to discuss admission policies.  It also develops policies and practices for OMSAS, which includes the maintenance of applicant data for the Ontario medical schools.

Postgraduate Education Committee 

The Postgraduate Education Committee (PGE:COFM) considers and advises COFM on all matters relating to postgraduate medical education, provincially and nationally, that bear on the collective interests of the Ontario medical schools.  PGE:COFM promotes the development of common approaches in areas such as supervision, leaves of absence, etc., in postgraduate medical education programs.  PGE:COFM liaises with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario and the Professional Association of Interns and Residents of Ontario. 

Postgraduate Management Committee 

The Postgraduate Management Committee (PGM:COFM) advises COFM on the management of  the postgraduate medical education environment.  PGM:COFM participates in physician human resource planning exercises as they relate to postgraduate medical education requirements in Ontario.

Undergraduate Education Committee  

The Committee on Undergraduate Education (UE:COFM) considers and advises COFM on all matters that bear on the collective interest of undergraduate medical programs in Ontario.

A subcommittee of UE:COFM is E:COFM which provides leadership, coordination and information about e-curriculum initiatives and promotes new opportunities for innovative web-based medical curriculum
