The Office of Health Sciences (OHS) interacts closely with Ontario university health science programs in medicine, nursing, rehabilitation sciences and those institutions with an interest in seniors' health care.  These programs have a mandate of education, research and service and graduate the majority of physicians, nurses, audiologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists that work in the province of Ontario.

The OHS provides secretariat support to the following committees:

  • Council of Ontario Faculties of Medicine (COFM) - representing the six Ontario medical schools;
  • Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN) - representing the thirteen universities that offer nursing programs;
  • Ontario Council of University Programs in Rehabilitation Sciences (OCUPRS) - representing programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy, audiology and speech-language pathology at five universities; and
  • Ontario Interdisciplinary Council for Aging and Health (OICAH) - representing universities with an interest in seniors' health care.

Each of these committees was established to further the cause of academia related to its discipline(s).  They do so through advocacy, information sharing and self-regulation.
